Buncombe County led the state in the number of rabies cases in 2003, reporting a total of 70, with 61 cases of rabid raccoons. From January 1, 2005 to January 1, 2006, a total of 24 cases were reported, with a total of only 15 rabid raccoons. Statistics prove that the disease is deadly, but controllable, especially in domestic animals. . . .
