Beavers found dead at Redding's Mary Lake

As many as five beavers living in Mary Lake and its inlet Jenny Creek in west Redding have been found dead or dying in the past half-year, two of them this week.

Two animal regulation officers were sent to the west Redding lake on Thursday after the animals were reported, said Ray John, who oversees Haven Humane Society and Redding Animal Regulation.

One of the animals was retrieved from Jenny Creek, a canallike inlet running into the pond.

One of Scotland's most popular angling spots has reopened two weeks after thousands of fish were found dead.

Lake of Menteith, near Aberfoyle in the Trossachs, was closed to fishing to allow scientists to investigate the deaths of more than 10,000 fish.

An aquatic scientist carried out a series of tests before declaring the lake safe for fishing.

Monkey’s death at Toledo Zoo blamed on heart failure

The first member of an endangered monkey species to be born at the Toledo Zoo died Wednesday of congestive heart failure.

Tien, a male Francois’ langur, began receiving treatment last month because it showed signs of respiratory problems.

Though Tien responded partially to treatment, it became increasingly lethargic and anorexic, zoo officials said.
