Scientists are looking at a novel strategy to prevent the spread of pandemic avian influenza. They have developed a vaccine that protects ducks, a known natural reservoir for the virus. They report their findings in the November 2008 issue of the Journal of Virology

A white-tailed deer herd infected with chronic wasting disease on a Portage County hunting preserve has been destroyed and samples from all the animals sent to a laboratory to be tested, according to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
