A wild pig, recently shot by a Genoa area farmer, has tested positive for pseudorabies by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. The department is contacting area producers to alert them to the situation and to advise them of symptoms and preventative measures. State Veterinarian Dr. Dennis Hughes said the incident is related to a similar problem with wild pigs infected with pseudorabies in the Genoa area in early 2007.

Local associations and the Southern province of New Caledonia were in uproar at the weekend after it transpired last week that thousands of liters of sulfuric acid have accidentally been spilled into the environment, killing thousands of fauna and flora species. The incident was reported to have occurred on Wednesday last week at the construction site of the huge nickel mining project driven by Brazilian giant Vale, in the south of the main island, near Goro.
New rules force pets out of taxidermists' studios to stop spread of chronic wasting disease

New bio-security rules were approved by the Natural Resources Commission this month to reduce the potential for spreading chronic wasting disease. Taxidermists who raise deer, moose or elk will have to be careful not to let their pets into their taxidermy studios from now on.
